 What happens when a 16-year-old young man with an entrepreneurial spirit grows up visiting our beautiful Golden Isles of Georgia, entranced with its classic charm, nautical memorabilia, southern respect and, we mustn’t forget, UGA football? A successful merchandise company – Southern Anchor.

Southern Anchor was created in January 2013 by Georgia born and bred, Sam Simpson. It was spurred by his desire to promote the southern lifestyle and his Christian values. The anchor represents remaining true to what you believe in, while the bowtie reflects the classic look of a southern gentleman, both notable characteristics of Sam and his family.

Sam began his endeavor on social media outlets by holding contests and giveaways with products from other companies that reflected his ideals. It didn't take long before his followers were eager to assist in his promotion of the southern lifestyle and values and requested products to purchase to show their support. The first products were decals and a T-shirt design, which quickly became a big demand. From there, Southern Anchor expanded into hats, koozies, croakies and cups. Retail stores began contacting Sam about carrying his brand in their stores and boutiques. Within the first year, Southern Anchor was selling in over 15 retail stores, on the website and through Etsy.

With the demands of his growing company, Sam needed help. Managing the day-to-day operations of his new venture while attending high school and enjoying the adventures of being 16 was more than he wanted to handle alone. So he approached his brother Mike, who quickly agreed to a partnership. And, a new family business was born.

By the summer of 2013, Southern Anchor had four different logo short-sleeved T-shirt options and an American design. Then, with the cool weather of the fall and winter, they began producing long-sleeved T-shirts. Seven options of long-sleeved T- shirts ranging from a chevron or camo design in the bowtie to a unique sailboat design were produced. They all were instant hits.

Fall also brought football season! Sam and Mike grew up attending University of Georgia football games, carrying on a 4th generation tradition of being a “Dawg Fan.” So when a request was made for an annual UGA vs. FL football game T-shirt design, Southern Anchor jumped at the opportunity. Overnight it became a hit among UGA fans and Southern Anchor fans and sold out quickly. The success of the rivalry T- shirt prompted a new collegiate line debuting in early 2014. The collegiate line will include new products, fun designs and a colorful new collection.

Southern Anchor will start 2014 off with a bang debuting at the Atlanta Market January 2014, as well as, attending Super Bowl XLVIII in New York. Sam, an avid sports fan who dreams of becoming a sports announcer for ESPN, didn't bat an eye when he was asked to introduce Southern Anchor to sports fans from all over the world, while also checking a Super Bowl appearance off his bucket list! Also new for 2014 is a Limited Edition Lighthouse design collection with the first featuring the St. Simons Island Lighthouse in honor of the family’s heritage to the area.
